Léa Chen is a Taiwanese artist who is currently based in London. Focusing on the female perspective, her work explores themes of self-identity, memory, and trauma through her personal experience. Primarily utilising photography, Chen proceeds to explore moving images and sound as her creative media.

Often seeking inspiration in nature, Chen’s work explores the intimate bond between humans and the land by shooting outside the traditional studio. By creating an open and free space for her subjects to express themselves, she further challenges social and cultural issues that are often unspoken in society. Chen’s identity as a female Taiwanese artist maintains a strong connection in both her personal and commercial works. Having lived in Taiwan, Italy, and the United Kingdom, she continues to question the definition of home in her practice. Delicately pairing forms, textures, and abstract movements, Chen turns the ordinary into poetic scenes by observing as an “outsider” in this constantly changing world.

Through her intimate inspection, Chen builds a female narrative that differs from the mainstream media, creating a private space for her audience to safely wander and heal within the land of her creativity.
